The Person
in the Mirror.

With your boss, you are measured and professional. With your friends, you loosen up. With your family, something older and more complicated comes out. Online, you are curated.

And then there is the version of you that nobody sees. The one present in the small choices: whether you are honest when honesty costs something, whether you treat people well when there is nothing to gain from it, whether you do the right thing when no one is watching and no one would ever know the difference. The version of you that exists in the gap between your reputation and your reality.

Wisdom has a word for what lives in that gap.

The word integrity appears throughout Proverbs in a specific way. In Hebrew, it carries the idea of wholeness, i.e., being the same thing all the way through, the way a piece of timber is sound all the way through rather than rotten at the core.

Proverbs 11:3 says that this inward wholeness is what guides the upright. Not their plans, their opportunities, or their network. Their integrity. It's the thing that keeps a life oriented correctly even when no external pressure is keeping them in line.

There's a quality to the life of the person of integrity that comes from not having to manage a gap between who they appear to be and who they actually are. They do not have to remember which version of the story they told to which person. They're simply and consistently themselves.

However, Wisdom makes it clear that character formation is not a self-improvement project (14:2). It's the visible fruit of an inward orientation. When someone genuinely takes God seriously, it grows from the inside out, like a tree whose fruit tells you everything you need to know about its roots.

This is why the path of the righteous shines brighter. Every small choice in the direction of integrity compounds. Every decision to be honest when dishonesty would have been easier, to be kind when no one would have noticed the alternative, to do the work properly when a shortcut was available: each one adds a layer. Over time, the person of integrity becomes someone whose life has a depth and solidity to it that cannot be manufactured from the outside.

The reverse is also true. Small compromises accumulate quietly. The gap between the public self and the private self widens. Eventually, what's inside becomes visible. Not in a single dramatic moment of exposure, but gradually, in the texture of a life. The people closest to you see it first. Then it becomes clear to everyone.

The invitation today is simply to look honestly in the mirror and ask: Is the person I see one whose life is quietly being made whole by walking with God? Or is there a gap widening between who I say I am and how I actually live?

You have spent five days at the beginning of something. Wisdom starts with the fear of the Lord, with taking God genuinely seriously as the foundation of how you live. Two voices have been calling your name. You've seen that teachability is the difference between someone who grows and someone who stagnates. You know that your heart is the source of everything that flows from you, and that it needs guarding. And today you have been invited to look honestly at the person being formed in the ordinary, unobserved moments of your days.

The invitation of these five days has been the same throughout: walk with God. Not just believe in Him. Not just attend to Him occasionally: walk with Him closely enough that His character begins to show up in yours.
